Maintenance tips

Maintaining your solid wood furniture

Buying solid wood furniture means being aware that the wood lives on and reacts to its environment. In concrete terms, if the air in your room is dry, we invite you to place a glass of water inside the furniture that can accommodate it (sideboards for example) or underneath. This way you will avoid inconveniences such as possible cracking and splitting.
To protect the surface of your furniture that may be exposed, we advise you to apply a thin layer of water repellent over the entire surface to limit the absorption of liquids in the event of a glass or vase being spilled, for example. In addition, avoid direct exposure to the sun or the moon, which could cause slight changes in colour.
When cleaning your furniture, use only mild, non-corrosive products, usually just a soft cloth. In case of light stains, use water on a clean cloth or sponge.
Finally, the best thing to do is to avoid putting hot, icy, wet or greasy objects on the surface of the furniture, and this is also an opportunity to get yourself a nice tablecloth for meals!

Removing a mark from the surface of solid wood furniture

If you have forgotten your hot cup on a piece of furniture, for example, a whitish mark may have appeared on the surface of your furniture. In this case, nothing could be simpler: rub the mark with a cork, and it should gradually disappear.

Maintaining your teak furniture

Teak wood furniture is probably the easiest to maintain due to the rot-proof nature of the wood: it resists all weather conditions, hence its use in the marine industry.
So what to do? Just wash with soap and water once a year. There is no need for oil or varnish to protect it, it naturally secretes its own protection.
In the event of a stain, if it is not grease, a powerful jet of water will suffice (as on boat decks), otherwise a textile stain remover will be necessary.
As for oils, if you wish to use them, they will give your furniture a nice honey colour, which will tend to "grey" naturally.

Maintaining teak bathroom furniture

  • After using your bathroom, remember to wipe up any splashes on the furniture, as the water is hard in some parts of France and can leave small white spots.
If you forget, if traces of limescale appear, do not use an anti-limescale product or vinegar, but rather a lemon cut in half with which to rub
Then rinse with a damp sponge (soft side) and wipe with a dry cloth

Maintaining your leather

Just like solid wood, full grain leather is a natural material and therefore alive and requires special care. The most important point in the maintenance of leather and not to be neglected is undoubtedly its hydration via the application of a colourless and nourishing cream with a soft cloth. The application of this cream should be done at least once a year and will also help to reduce any marks that may have been left on the leather. Of course, as with any natural material, chemicals and soap should not be used for cleaning. A damp cloth is sufficient for daily cleaning.

Finally, to keep your leather seat in the best condition, we advise you not to expose it to direct sunlight or to a strong source of heat (fireplace, radiator) so as not to discolour it.
